“Cabeça, tronco e membros.”
Motion Graphics
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
I was invited by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation to animate a 9-minute film “Cabeça tronco e membros” using a mixed technique combining photography, video, motion design, and frame-by-frame animation. The visual style had been previously defined, but I was able to contribute additional visual language and create new scenes where no visuals existed.
The aim of the film is to introduce the Foundation to younger audiences, helping them discover what they can find there and expand their horizons.
Discovery
Introduction to the Journey
Starting with a brief introduction to Mr. Calouste’s life, through Egypt and the famous gardens, the film invites young viewers to embark on a journey through the world of the Foundation.
Along the way, they uncover stories, places, and inspirations that shaped the spirit of curiosity and sharing that defines the Gulbenkian Foundation.

The Creative Process
The film’s creation went through several stages — research, experimentation, and animation. Each frame was carefully crafted to merge live-action imagery with illustration, creating a vivid visual language accessible to younger audiences.

Mixed Technique
The mixed technique combines photography, video, motion design, and frame-by-frame animation. This fusion of styles allowed for an exploration of contrasts between the real and the imaginary, reinforcing the playful and educational spirit of the narrative.

Visual Rhythm
The film’s rhythm follows the curious gaze of children — fast and light when they discover something new, slower and more contemplative when they linger on an image or a story.

Learning to See the World
The goal is to spark curiosity and a desire to learn, showing that the Foundation is a place where we discover the world — and where the world also discovers us.
